چکیده

Majority of the applications used in defense are voice, video and data oriented and has strict QoS requirements. One of the technologies that enabled this is Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) networking. Traditional ATM networks are wired networks. But Tactical networks are meant to be mobile and this implies the use of radio relays for Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communications. ATM networks assume a physical link layer BER of 10-9 or better because of the availability of reliable media like optical fiber links. But this assumption is no longer valid when ATM switches are connected through radio relay where error rates are in the rage of 10-3. This paper presents the architecture of a Link Enhancer meant to improve the Bit Error Rate of the Wireless links used for V2I and V2V communications from 1 in 10 to 1 in 10

Bandwidth Allocation in Wireless ATM Networks with Guaranteed Cell Loss Performance

Wireless ATM aims at extending ATM services to the wireless environment. In contrast to wireline ATM, which is primarily based on reliable ber optic, wireless ATM will have to cope with an unreliable radio channel. This poses a host of technical challenges related to the provisioning of quality of service (QoS) over a wireless link. Key issues include incorporating the characteristics of the wi...

MASCARA, a MAC Protocol for Wireless ATM

The Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol of a Wireless ATM (WATM) system is a critical component as it lies between the traditional ATM layer and the RF-based physical layer whose characteristics are far from those of fibberor copper-based conventional ATM media. The constraints imposed on the MAC protocol of a WATM system lead to consider the design of a Half Duplex (HDX), point-to-multipoint,...

Punctured Convolutional Codes for Supporting PCS Access to ATM Networks

A personal communications services (PCS) system that provides access to, and interworks with, the ATM network will have the capability to support future multimedia services. PCS access to fixed ATM networks is one of the wireless access scenarios being considered by the ATM Forum for standardization. This paper provides a system level description of a PCS-to-ATM interworking scenario. It propos...

A fast rerouting scheme using reservation in wireless ATM

With growing demand for higher bandwidth multimedia services in the wireless domain over the past few years, wireless asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) has emerged as a fine solution. Wireless ATM provides mobility support for mobile ATM users as they move among base stations. One of the key issues to support user mobility is the handoff. For a relatively smaller cell environment in wireless ATM...
